The Perfect Nest

Every morning I have a real Easter egg hunt. The girls seem to lay for a limited time in the same location, but recently they changed their spot to a straw bail I’ve had sitting in my garden all winter. I never see them go there, so it must be really early in the morning. What’s funny is that they have to somehow get to the top of the stack and then somebody had to create the nest. I think it’s perfect!

Found your blog via the PW. LOVE your cute ducks. So are they easier to raise than chickens? They sure are cuter!

I think they are almost maintenance free AND really easy to raise!

My ducks have a nesting Box in their night pen! …and they actually use it! They are closed up at night due to foxes lurking around so I dont have to go for a n egg hunt every morning. Mrs D actually hides the eggs by covering all 3 eggs up with the hay! She also made a nest like yours on the pen floor with hay but not as deep. Sometimes the eggs are scattered around the pen but mostly in the nesting box at the moment. xxx Got a love Ducks!!!

Hi i think your web is great i love the way the hens made that nest! My dead ones used to have a shed with a front garden and they didnt have nests but they had raised boxes (like a chicken coop but this one was homemade) sadly Acorn1(my first female indian runner) wouldent go in so we left her out but we heard her pecking at the coop but a fox took her :( then acorn2 was new to the other males (2 males) and they all got swiped by a fox while i was at school. Since i also breed snails are snails safe to feed to the ducks? i heard they eat slugs. We are building a new duck house and its under some plum trees should i have my garden like yours where they have a house with some wire then they can rome in garden? we did this occasionly but they caught some frogs out of our pond and were fussy so they ate only the front legs of the frogs (gross or what?!) another question do they eat frogs (are they healthy or not as we have too many frogs!)
