I spent a few days this summer building this great looking fence around my most beautiful tree in the backyard to keep the ducks from eating all my flowers.

I thought it was pretty ingenious and I made sure to put a stick wherever I thought they could squeeze through.  And besides being functional, I was looking for something that would blend with my yard and look good at the same time.  Most of the summer I had a big old piece of chicken wire wrapped around the perimeter of the tree and it looked a little trashy.

The ducks….

had been laying most of their eggs either out in the middle of the yard or in various nests around the house.  Easy enough to locate.  A few weeks ago, I went out in the morning on my usual egg hunt and found NO eggs.  Thinking they were having a late start to their morning, I gave them till lunch to pop those puppies out.  Still, no eggs.  After work, no eggs!  And then I see one toddle out of the forbidden zone!

Lesson learned.  There is NO forbidden zone!

OMIGOSH, I love your fence! You are so talented…. Don’t feel bad, there are no forbidden zones here either……for the deer, the cows, the bob cats, the mountain lions, the bears….or worst of all……my children, my dear sweet little rugrats…. sighhhh

That was hilarious! Your fence is beautiful and creative…but we had ducks and chickens once, and NOTHING was sacred to them, so I could guess what was coming. Anyway, thanks for a chuckle this morning!!

What an awesome little fence! Very creative and such a great protection! It’s so beautiful too! I’ve been looking for something to put around our tree (the previous owners just did bricks) and this may be the perfect answer!

    Hello Kelly,
Jenny Ananda pointed me to your website. We live outside of Lawrence (towards Tongie) on 30 acres, and just got 4 ducks this week (although sometime during the night something happened to one and is no longer in our garden). I was wondering what breed of ducks you have, how many, and whether or not you ever trim their feathers so that they do not fly away. We’re concerned about the missing duck, because we’re not sure if it was a predator that is coming back for more, or if it flew away. There was no sign of a struggle - like lots of loose feathers, etc.
    Thanks for your lovely site.
    Monika
