WARNING, this will only excite my quilter friends out there, sorry duck lovers, but I have to show off my found treasure from Saturday’s garage sale-ing. Yes, I know it’s not a real word , sale-ing, but it’s what I say so I gotta use it!  And when I say vintage, it scares me a little because I was in this world back then.  Vintage is good, right?

One lesson I learned a long time ago is to always look in nondescript bags at garage sales!  Inside might be some of the best stuff you’ve ever seen.  My find was in a small, white, ugly bag with a .50 sticker on it!!!  Gotta look in that one….

yellow-and-white-blocks

This is the beginning.  At least 12 FINISHED blocks, yellow and white, all handstitched.  I’m a hand stitching fiend, so this is good!!!

And lots of partial blocks and pieces AND at least 2 yards of the yellow fabric.

I found the bright block in a sealed bag.  Guess it makes a difference to seal your work!

The best piece of this puzzle was finding this on the backside of some notes the quilter had made about the pattern…

calendar

But for me, this was the GOLD….

hexagon-blocks

Because I’m so addicted to hexagons right now and can’t stop.  This only added to the problem!!

hexagon-pieces2

Can you believe it?? (only fellow quilters can answer this question!)

hexagon-scraps-all

I enjoyed the treasure for awhile and then made myself put it all aside for later.  I’ve got a daughter’s wedding next week so I can’t EVEN be tempted!!  BTW, I’ll have a giveaway coming up.

I think I’ll share something from this fabulous stash :-)

WAIT!!!!!!!!!!! First, I have to tell you how I came up with the winner, right??  I thought about you guys a LOT while I was hard at work this weekend!

kelly-fishing

I decided Saturday morning that whatever the number of fish we caught between 3 of us on Saturday, would be the comment number I would choose.  Very fair and random, keeping in mind there were loads of great comments from lots of deserving folks!!   BTW, we caught 58 crappie on Friday!!  WOW, was that fun!  I’ll give you that story tomorrow.

walleye-mouth

This, my internet friends, was fish (walleye) number….5!!!

Congrats to WENDY, comment number 5, who was either going camping at Texas State Park or to the San Antonio Zoo.  Whatever you did, Wendy, I hope you had loads of fun!!  I’ll be sending this lovely your way!

kaffe-fassett-giveaway-paperweight

Thanks to everyone who stopped by this weekend.  I sure enjoyed reading all your weekend plans.  I’ll be doing this again cuz it’s just so much fun.  Maybe in a few weeks to celebrate the marriage of youngest daughter.  YES, that would be a good reason for another giveaway.  Her wedding date, you ask?  May 22!!   Woo hoo!!  I should probably quit sewing and start planning, maybe?

Yep, comment to win a whole yard of fabulous Kaffe Fassett’s “Paperweight” fabric! In celebration of my 100th post (thought I’d really only make it to 5!), I want to share with one lucky person a whole yard of this beautiful fabric….

kaffe-fassett-giveaway

It was screaming at me through the window of my local fabric shop earlier this week.  I selfishly bought the whole thing for me and then decided I would give the whole thing to you, or at least one of you!  I’ll go back and buy another yard for me next week because I can’t stand to be without this unbelievable orange in my life!

And if you are a selvage hoarder, like me, you’ll appreciate a few of these great edges.  Don’t get that one?  Check out one of my favorite websites that only deals with selvages!

tomatoes

My job today is to get these lovely tomatoes in the ground so I can leave tomorrow and fish all weekend long!  Your job today is to answer this question…..

WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR FUN THIS WEEKEND?

I’ll take comments through Sunday night and pick a winner Monday morning.  Until then…….

GONE FISHIN!!

Spring is awesome! My postings seem to slow down once the weather allows me in the garden. But since I must sew, I dug out the most spring feeling block I could find in the fabulous freecycle stash I acquired a few months ago.  The woman who gave away all this wonderful fabric  had a few blocks already stitched together along with matching fabric.  I’m sure, like me, she thought she would get back to something that maybe wasn’t working for her at that moment.  Alas, I was the lucky recipient of all her stash that she no longer wanted.

spring-block-orange-yellow-green

This is, by far, my favorite color combination of all time.  Possibly because in the mid-70’s (ewww, did I just date myself??) my bedroom could only be orange, lime green and yellow.

spring-block-2

This is the block that had already been put together, so I’m going with it!  I decided to sew as I go and improvise with whatever fabric is in the batch until it’s all used up.  So here I go……

spring-block-pieces

These are the fabrics and some of the small blocks that were already sewn.  Don’t the colors and patterns just make you scream happy?!!

spring-block-pieces-3

I mirrored her first square with a variety of fabrics.  How’s it lookin’?

spring-block-pieces-4

And this is where I ended for now….

spring-block-pieces-5

I’ll be out in the garden until I get a rainy day to sew.  Hopefully that will be soon cuz’ I’m just itching to finish this one!
