Duck In My Spinach!
This morning I looked all over for number 3 Hoover girl. She won’t move off the nest until she’s popped out that egg. Of course, I found her in the forbidden garden zone!
I think she camouflaged herself just so she could stay in the garden a while longer and eat spinach! Can you even see her??
I still can’t figure out how she got in!
My friend, Nico, came over and we collected eggs and picked the first radish out of the garden. He wanted to see what was inside the duck house and said, “They even have their own phone!”
And then it was out to “walk” the ducks.
HUP….2…3…4…HUP….2….3….4!
Duck Lays Egg On Table!
I have a nagging morning ritual. I first must open the bedroom blinds to do the morning duck head count. I can usually see them all hoovering the yard. If there are only two, then the straggler is usually sitting on her usual nest. WELL, this morning there was no sign of number three. AND, when I looked out, there was a cat roaming in the back of the yard. This makes me nervous!!
I raced out barefooted (which is not a good idea in my poopy yard) and chased the cat away. The other two girls were standing perfectly still with extended necks looking toward the corner of the yard. There sat HOOVER GIRL #3, sitting atop my garden table, laying an egg!
OH, and by the way, my ducks don’t fly. Crazy DUCK!!!
PS. Quilters–I’ve got a giveaway treat coming later this week!
Can A Garden Be Exciting?
YES! It was last week! The girls (ducks) and I were out in the garden and I had just walked outside my garden fence when a tree in my neighbors backyard broke and fell on the transformer! I should add that it was windy that day. WHOA, did that scare me AND the girls!
This is the aftermath because during the whole event I sure didn’t think about taking pictures. I was too busy calling 911 because the tree that fell caused the transformer to catch fire and then blow, which in turn caught the tree on fire! The ducks ran like mad to the other corner of the yard.
They stayed in the corner for a good long time!
All ended well. The power was restored by dark and the men who had to take down the tree and fix the transformer, were good enough to put my garden back together. Bravo!!
PS. No eggs were popped out the next day ;-(
The Perfect Nest
Every morning I have a real Easter egg hunt. The girls seem to lay for a limited time in the same location, but recently they changed their spot to a straw bail I’ve had sitting in my garden all winter. I never see them go there, so it must be really early in the morning. What’s funny is that they have to somehow get to the top of the stack and then somebody had to create the nest. I think it’s perfect!
